North Tipperary Agriculture Show Nenagh Showgrounds August 1st 2016

The North Tipperary Agricultural Show established in 1875 celebrates another year.

This long standing tradition in Tipperary can hardly be rivaled with. Many of your parents, grandparents and even their grandparents will have attended at some point in the 141 years of history. Through tough times and good times the show has survived.

Although essentially an agricultural show with the reliable stalwarts remaining unchanged the show has evolved to become a special day out.

So come and meet the neighbours and put August 1st in your diary for an authentic experience and the kettle will be on.

Notorious Poacher to appear at North Tipperary Agriculture Show

This year’s North Tipperary Agriculture Show plays host to the Notorious Victorian Poacher from the Hills of Donegal. Making his way to North Tipperary with his band of ferrets, nets and dogs is The Victorian Poacher, better known as Steven McGonigal. Steven, who is Ireland’s only full time professional Rabbit catcher, will be making his debut appearance at the North Tipp show, the only appearance outside his Irish Game Fair summer circuit.

The Victorian Poacher takes us into historical Ireland on his old bicycle along with his ferrets and dogs where the rabbit was currency and shows us exactly how the rabbit was caught by many methods including the age old method of Long netting at night and shows us how the rabbit was caught and how the poacher wasn’t!

Steven also will be demonstrating net making, snare making and old trapping methods as well as new on his stand “Ways of the Rabbit Catcher”.

So for a historical and often comical look at times gone by and what the rabbit means to Ireland, come along and catch with Irelands most Notorious Poacher at North Tipperary Agriculture Show, August Bank Holiday Monday.
